The Department of Biochemistry started functioning in 1951. Unlike  in many other medical colleges, right from the date of inception, it has been an independent and full fledged department. A decade later, in 1962, the Postgraduate Course was started. The department has been fortunate to have a highly qualified and experienced staff.  The succession list of Heads of Department is indeed a list of illustrious teachers.
